NOT QUITE TERRESTRIAL #2
BY NATE RAYMOND

ISSUE SYNOPSIS
Sierra sees a shrink about the events in issue #1. Meanwhile, S-409 sneaks into Sierra’s home. When Sierra and Matt get home later that evening, they are attacked by S-409. She runs off eventually, and the issue ends with Sierra and Matt finding Sierra’s dad dead.

PAGE 1, SPLASH PAGE

SIERRA lies in a psychologist’s couch with a psychologist (whom we’ll refer to as “LECTER”) councils her in a chair right next to her.

LECTER
Begin from the beginning, please Ms. Holt. Tell me about your childhood.

PAGE 2, 3 PANELS

PANEL 1
Closer view of SIERRA (perhaps a shot from directly above her). She looks quite at ease, even if she is missing out on all the fun a Saturday brings with it. She’s not even worried about LECTER discovering her secret, that she has superpowers. After all, who would believe her? By the way, make sure she’s in a jacket for later reasons in the story.

SIERRA
What do you mean?

LECTER
Anything that comes to mind about your early years.

SIERRA
Oh. Well, I guess the main thing that comes to mind is my mom.

LECTER
Tell me about her.

PANEL 2
Different view of SIERRA now, perhaps one where we can see LECTER as well.

SIERRA
She was nice. I mean, she would do anything for me. I’m not even sure if most mothers are like that. I don’t really like to talk about her too much, though. Makes me cry.

LECTER
She’s deceased, correct? Tell me, what do you remember of her death?

SIERRA
It was a drive-by. Police never even found the killers. And you know what really sucks?

PANEL 3
Close-up of SIERRA. A tear tumbles down her face.

LECTER
What?

SIERRA
I watched it happen from the window. And for the past year I’ve been reliving that moment in my dreams over and over.

LECTER
Did you seek help before today?

SIERRA
No, my dad has enough problems as it is, I didn't want him to worry about that too.

LECTER
Do tell.

PAGE 3, 4 PANELS

PANEL 1
We’re now at SIERRA’S home, where SIERRA’S DAD sits on the couch watching television (more specifically FRANKENSTEIN). Don’t show the television set, though.

SIERRA (CAPTION)
He’s a writer, and for a while he was very successful. But then mom died and he’s had writer’s block for the past year because of it.

LECTER (CAPTION)
Do you suffer from money problems?

SIERRA (CAPTION)
Luckily, no, he still gets royalties for his novels, but that's only going to last so long.

PANEL 2
Different view of SIERRA’S DAD.

LECTER (CAPTION)
Do you and your father have a very close relationship.

SIERRA (CAPTION)
We have . . .  an understanding relationship. He gives me space and I give him his.

LECTER (CAPTION)
I see.

PANEL 3
View of the house.

LECTER (CAPTION)
So, about the attack last night.

PANEL 4
A shadow (a.k.a. S-409) walks toward the house.

PAGE 4, 4 PANELS

PANEL 1
Closer view of S-409 walking toward the house. Remember, she walks like a cat, so keep that in mind when you draw her.

PANEL 2
S-409 seems started as she hears a noise and begins to turn around.

KITTY CAT
Meeeeeow

PANEL 3
Small panel of a cat’s face.

PANEL 4
Large panel of S-409 and the cat facing each other, both curious about each other, but with respect for each other as well. This should be a cute panel. It should be something that will stand out in the viewer’s mind in the future.

PAGE 5, 4 PANELS

PANEL 1
Back to LECTER's place. SIERRA looks to LECTER.

LECTER
Did you know the man?

SIERRA
Nope, which is . . .  sorta even more scary.

LECTER
What do you remember of the fight?

PANEL 2
SIERRA talks, calmly, not too sad about the moment, but a bit worried about how the details of the man's death will come out. A tear should come fall from her eye.

SIERRA
Matt and I came out of the theater and were talking. Then the guy grabbed me and punched Matt. I kicked the dude in the nuts, but then he started beating me up and . . .  then sorta just fainted. Guess he died then.

LECTER
Do you know why he fainted?

SIERRA
The police didn't tell me, but my dad told me what they told him. He said that they think the guy got a rise out of attacking me and popped his brain.

LECTER
And what're your feelings on that?

PANEL 3
SIERRA looks at her watch, desperately trying to get out of these questions about the man's death (who, obviously, she caused).

SIERRA
Damn . . .  time for me to go.

PANEL 4
LECTER and SIERRA shake hands.

LECTER
It was a pleasure meeting with you. Please, do come again.

SIERRA
Sure will.

PAGE 6, 3 PANELS

PANEL 1
SIERRA walks outside the building with a backpack on to find MATT waiting for her against the building, both of them happy and almost giggling with joy to see each other. It’s late evening (past 9:00 p.m.).

PANEL 2
SIERRA pulls MATT into an alley.

SIERRA
Come with me, I want to show you something.

PANEL 3
A view as if we were seeing this panel from the fifth floor of a building (not actually from a building, just using so you get what I mean). No one else in the dirty, garbage-filled alley, as SIERRA will note. She and MATT run to the end of the alley to a brick wall.

SIERRA
Perfect! We’re the only ones here!

MATT
What’re we doing?

PAGE 7, SPLASH PAGE

SIERRA rips-open her jacket, revealing a Superman white T-shirt that goes down to her belly button (I have photo references if you need one, but I’m sure you’ve seen this type of shirt before). This page should be several things. First off and most obvious, it’s a homage to the scenes where Superman tears open his jacket to reveal his logo. Second, SIERRA should sorta come off sexy and appealing in this scene. Really, essentially, she’s flirting with MATT right now. As she tears off her coat, have her floating in the air, so the scene should also convey the power SIERRA has. Be sure to have MATT below her, quite amazed obviously (his girlfriend’s flying, who wouldn’t be amazed?)

SIERRA
Making your dreams come true.

PAGE 8, 3 PANELS

PANEL 1
SIERRA flies through the air holding MATT underneath her. Off-panel SIERRA pulled two masks out of her backpack so no one could ID who they were if for some reason someone saw them. SIERRA’S is a MYSTIQUE mask and MATT’S is a WOLVERINE (figure we might as well use masks that’ll be in popular demand this summer). The cool thing in my mind about the masks will be how it will distort what people are thinking (they know it’s SIERRA, but their subconscious wants them to believe it’s MYSTIQUE).

MATT
You taught yourself to fly in one day?

SIERRA
It’s not that hard actually. It’s as easy as walking, or talking. And, by the way, no, you don’t get to go into my room.

MATT
I wasn’t going to ask you.

SIERRA
Yeah, I know that, but I thought it was a humorous thought.

PANEL 2
Focus on MATT. He looks sorta concerned.

MATT
You know, we need to talk about that.

SIERRA (O.P.)
What, reading your mind? Afraid I’ll find out what you did with Emily in eighth grade?

MATT
Hey, knock it off!

PANEL 3
View on SIERRA, smiling as she flirts and talks with MATT. (By the way, quite a bit of dialog, so plan panel layout carefully).

SIERRA
Relax, you bragged about that for an entire week, remember?

Besides, I don’t have much control of these powers yet. I’ve been trying to tune out what you think, but everything people near me thinks enters my mind.

Besides, considering the fact that I’m still dating you after hearing all of your thoughts, you should feel happy.

PANEL 4
View of both MATT and SIERRA as they talk more.

MATT
Do you at all find it weird that your powers developed the same time you were attacked?

SIERRA
Do you find it at all weird I have powers?

MATT
Good point.

PAGE 9, 3 PANELS

PANEL 1
SIERRA and MATT land in front of her house.

SIERRA
You know, I was lying, if you want you can come in.

PANEL 2
SIERRA and MATT yank off their masks.

MATT
Naw, that’s okay, I think I’ll just call it a night.

PANEL 3
SIERRA and MATT give each other a nice kiss (no tongue, in other words).

SIERRA
Take care.

PAGE 10, 3 PANELS

PANEL 1
SIERRA walks into her house through the front door.

SIERRA
Dad, I’m home!

PANEL 2
Silence.

PANEL 3
SIERRA walks around a corner in the house.

SIERRA
Dad?

PANEL 4
SIERRA walks into the kitchen.

SIERRA
Oh daaaaaaaad . . .

KITTY CAT (O.P.)
Meeeeeeeeeooow

PANEL 5
SIERRA kneels down, as the cat from earlier in the issue sits next to her. SIERRA pets it.

SIERRA
Hey, kitty. Where’d you come from?

KITTY CAT
Prrrrrrrrrr

ANOTHER “KITTY”
Meeeeeeooow

SIERRA
Did you bring a friend?

PAGE 11, SPLASH PAGE

S-409 flies through the air right at SIERRA. You know the Pugh sketch of Penance he had on his site? Think of that.

SIERRA
HOLY SHIT!!!

S-409
ROAR!!!

PAGE 12, 3 PANELS

PANELS 1 & 2
SIERRA is tackled by S-409. S-409 slashes at SIERRA’s arms and face.

PANEL 3
SIERRA sees a knife lying on the floor and reaches for it.

PANEL 4
SIERRA grabs the knife. Perhaps only look at her hand as it grabs the knife.

PANEL 5
SIERRA stabs S-409 in chest (but not at the heart, so perhaps a breast?).

S-409
(undetermined sound, if you have suggestion, tell me)

SIERRA
Take that!

PANEL 6
SIERRA makes a run for it as S-409 recovers.

PAGE 13, 5 PANELS

PANEL 1
S-409 tackles SIERRA again.

SIERRA
UFF!

PANEL 2
S-409 goes back to attacking SIERRA, raising a hand to swipe at SIERRA.

PANEL 3
S-409 is shocked to find she can't move her hand.

SIERRA
Word of advice: Never . . .

PANEL 4
SIERRA stands up as she makes S-409 fly out the window.

SIERRA
. . . Mess . . .

PANEL 5
S-409 runs off as SIERRA look through the window.

SIERRA
. . . With a telekinetic. Especially me.

PAGE 14, 3 PANELS

PANEL 1
SIERRA begins to walk down the stairs, worried for her dad.

SIERRA
Dad?! Where are you?! Are you okay?!

PANEL 2
SIERRA at the bottom of the stairs, completely freaked out.

SIERRA
Oh my God!

PANEL 3
SIERRA'S DAD lies bruised and bloody on the ground.

SIERRA (O.P.)
DAD!

PAGE 15, 3 PANELS

PANEL 1
SIERRA sits next to her DAD's body.

DAD
Sierra . . .  *cough*

SIERRA
Don't speak. I’m going to call 911.

PANEL 2
Her DAD speaks more.

DAD
Sierra . . .  do something for me . . .  go to San Diego . . .  and find Mary Campbell . . .

SIERRA
Why?

DAD
I . . .

PANEL 3
Her DAD dies. Tears begin to run down SIERRA's eyes.

PAGE 16, SPLASH PAGE

View of SIERRA from above, holding her father's dead body, crying.

SIERRA
NO!!!
